My highlighter – Ride or Die

I am a sucker for highlighting, it’s a fact. I absolutely love a little dewiness and highlighting is my favourite part of my makeup routine.  Let me tell you something though, you don’t need to reserve highlighting for nights out, you can add this to your daily makeup routine, in a very subtle way. A little goes a long way and here is how I add a little glow and youth to my day time makeup look.

Why should you wear SPF all year round? Here’s why…

Why should you wear SPF all year round? When you book that beach holiday, where the sun shines every day, most if not all of you will ensure your sunscreen is packed and ready to go with you.  You’ll apply it regularly throughout the day and it just becomes a part of your daily routine on the beach or by the pool.  So why is it we don’t adapt the same mentality back home?

Ok, so just because we live in a country that doesn’t seem to have an existing summer season, the sun’s rays, whether it be in the spring, summer, autumn and yes, even in the winter, penetrate our skin without us even realising.  Just because it isn’t necessarily hot outside or particularly sunny, doesn’t mean the sun cannot do it’s damage deceivingly.

What is SPF? SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is the magic that allows you to stay in the sun longer than you would be able to without it.  So for instance, if your skin starts to tan within say ten minutes, if you are wearing an SPF of 30, this will allow you to stay in the sun 30 times longer until you get the same reaction without it.  I am not promoting staying in the sun for long periods of time, but this is just an indication of the protection SPF gives you.

Is it important to wear SPF all year round? Yes.  There is no question about it.  So I am not saying lather yourself from head to toe in sunscreen, but just be practical.  I for one, always wear an SPF on my face.  The rest of my body may be covered up but my face gets the most exposure to UV rays, therefore to protect myself from a daily build up of damage, I simply wear an SPF every day. It’s simple.

UV damage is irreparable so wear SPF on your face every day.  I don’t leave the house without it.  I badger my friends and family but I know they will thank me in years to come when they look 10 years younger than they actually are, and I am hoping you will too.

There are many brands out there that carry an SPF cream specifically for the face but my current favourite is the Clinique Face Cream – SPF 40.  This is perfect for me.  I wear this under my foundation for all day protection.  What I like about this particular cream, is it protects from both UVA (rays which age the skin) and UVB (rays that burn the skin).  The protection provided in this formula, reassures me that my skin is protected from early signs of ageing, which I think we all want, right?

I did a ton of research and read lots of reviews on different types of creams, so do yours too.  We all have different preferences/skin types plus I am not here to promote any brands, I am simply promoting healthy skincare which I am really passionate about.  There are plenty of products out there that protect you just as well, but I just wanted to put sun protection on your radar, it’s needed and it’s needed all year round.

Remember, sun care isn’t just for holidays, it’s for life.  Once the damage is done, there is no going back.  Look after your skin.

My favourite makeup brushes

We all know, to achieve a flawless makeup look, you need good quality makeup brushes.  However, this doesn’t mean you need to go out and buy the most expensive brushes out there, or the most well known, as they aren’t always necessarily the best.  Good quality brushes can have more than one use, whether it be used for foundation application, to powder application.   It’s all about experimenting and figuring out what works for you and the look you are trying to achieve.  There is no right or wrong, it’s all about having fun and trying new and different ways to apply your makeup to see what works for you.

FOUNDATION BRUSHES

Beauty Blender
Ok, this isn’t a brush but it has revolutionised the way I apply foundation, so much so, I hardly ever use anything else to apply my foundation.  You will not get a more flawless look than with the beauty blender.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush
So this is a brush and is my number one brush to apply foundation.  It will never leave a streaky finish which I find a lot of foundation brushes do which become’s really annoying.  I find you have to go back in and try and smooth out the streaks with either your fingers or another brush.  Way too much hassle for me.  You will not get this problem with the Expert Fact Brush, the quality is amazing and…it’s not expensive at all.

Over the years, I have collected and used a number of foundation brushes but these are the only two I ever use now.
