Millions of us out there suffer from acne prone skin, myself included and have suffered for nearly 10 years now. I am constantly on the look out for new remedies, different ointments, lotions and treatments to help me maintain my difficult skin.
I prefer to use home remedies, or products that are as natural and organic as possible whenever I can. I may have young looking skin now, but soaking my skin up with strong chemicals day in day out will only damage my skin in the long run which will age my skin faster than it should, and I certainly don’t want that! For years I have used medication prescribed to me by my doctor, but had been made aware through internet research that this could possibly damage my skin and cause early ageing. I have completely stopped using prescribed medication and now treat and maintain my acne with my own selection of cleansers, toners, moisturisers and topical treatments.
So, I have for a while been researching Camphor Oil which is extracted from the bark of the Camphor Tree which is then vacuumed and filter pressed. Camphor can be used to treat many ailments such as muscular aches and pains, arthritis, sprains, coughs, cold, even depression and of course acne.
It is strongly recommended that camphor is not applied directly to the skin due to the potency of it. This oil should always be diluted before application. This brings me onto my secret home made potion especially for acne prone skin.
Here is my secret recipe:
1 part Camphor Oil
1 part Hydrogen Peroxide
1 part Rose Water
I mixed all three ingredients into a small bottle, which you will find easy to use when applying this lotion to your skin.
How I use it:
I don’t use this lotion every day as my acne is not so bad anymore, and if I can avoid applying unnecessary products to my skin, I will do so. I like to apply this every other day, or every 3 days. If I am going through a phase where I am having a break out, I will use this on a daily basis until I have got the break out under control.
I recommend using this lotion as a night treatment due to the strong smell that unfortunately accompanies this oil. Once I have cleansed my face at night, I soak a round cotton pad with my acne lotion and dab, not rub this into my problem areas, mainly my cheeks, forehead and along my jaw line. I slowly dab this onto my skin, ensuring all problem areas have been treated. I then leave my skin for a few minutes, allowing the lotion to soak in and dry. Once I am happy the lotion has soaked in, I go ahead and apply my night moisturiser or facial oil.
I have been using this lotion for a while now and really feel like it has improved the condition of my acne, keeping it under control and I certainly am not breaking out as much as I used to.
Please note: Camphor oil is very toxic, and can cause severe side effects if ingested. Only ever use this product in dilution with other oils or lotions.
