I get asked by friends, family and many of you out there, how I get my foundation to look flawless. Believe me it hasn’t always and I have many pictures, which I rather not share, where it has been less than flawless!
However, over the years, I have tested many foundations, brushes, sponges, primers, powders to get me to where I am today, which is a fairly long lasting flawless base.
Before I get into my routine and what I use, it is important and I mean extremely important to ensure your skincare routine is spot on. Without looking after your skin, it will be near enough impossible to get that flawless base. Watch this space for my updated skincare routine which helps me achieve the skin I am now in love with.
So lets get to it.
The one moisturiser which I class as my holy grail for a great base for makeup is the Embryolisse Creme Concentrate Nourishing Moisturiser. It feels amazing when I apply this and is a creamy yet fresh and light consistency which for me delivers really moisturising benefits. I’ve not found a better base for the perfect foundation application. I’ve used this for about 7 years now and I cannot see myself ever being without it.
I am one who isn’t blessed with smooth tiny pores. But its OK, there is a solution and mine is The Benefit POREfessional face primer. The product is amazing and does what is says on the tin. It smooths out the appearance of large pores and for me, creates such a great base for my foundation. I use this lightly on my forehead, cheeks, nose and chin area. I cannot stress how important moisturising and primer is in helping ensure your foundation goes on smoothly. It needs something to cling to which allows it to look effortlessly flawless. I notice that it eliminates the textured look that I personally suffer with if I don’t.
I have many brushes and sponges in my makeup tool collection but by far and what I use the most is my trusted Beauty Blender. I honestly think this one tool contributes to my flawless foundation look. Using this slightly damp, with a soft pounching application is my favourite and to be honest the only way that I apply my foundation.
For a few years now, all I have used is the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. It is a little on the pricey side but when I say it is worth it I really mean it. Its a medium coverage, buildable foundation that provides a natural illuminous base, that doesn’t budge, separate, get cakey or oxidise! It’s amazing in photography and doesn’t produce any flashback. Another foundation I recently came across, and some of you that know me, know I go on about this all the time. It is the EX1 Foundation which I stumbled across on YouTube and wondered what the hype was about. Trust me, when I say this foundation deserves all the hype it gets. In my opinion this foundation is up there with my Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. It gives me great, coverage without looking too full on, doesn’t oxides and has the perfect balance of a satin to luminous finish, making this foundation one of my daily staples. I sometimes even mix these two foundations for a night out which allows my skin to get the best of both, with an incredible finish.
The two concealers, which I class as my ride or die are the Nar Creamy Concealer and the Maybelline Eye Eraser Both in my opinion are on par with each other and it really just depends on how I feel each morning which one I go for. Both deposit a great application of product, blend in well and the coverage is spot on. Neither are cakey or heavy so give a great healthy amount of coverage to cover dark circles and brighten my complexion instantly.
Once I am done with foundation and concealer followed by bronzer and blusher I set everything in place with the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. This light powder sets everything in place and definitely doesn’t look too powdery. This step is key to ensuring my foundation stays in place all day and doesn’t start to slip.
I used to save setting sprays for nights out but since I’ve introduced this into my daytime makeup routine, I have seen a huge difference in the longevity of my foundation. Once I’ve set my makeup in place with powder, I like to lock this all in with my MAC Prep and Prime Fix +. This ensures my face doesn’t look powdery and melts everything in together seamlessly. It keeps my makeup in place all day plus looking fresh with a slight glow. If I am ever in a rush and forget this step, I really do notice the difference.
So there it is, it sounds like a lot, but it isn’t and it works for me. Remember good skincare is also key to ensuring a great base for your foundation application. All the above is all a bonus in my eyes.
I’ll see you soon. X.O.
