Yes, I really did manage to get myself off the medication and rid myself of the confidence crushing condition I have suffered with for nearly 10 years.
For years I was on topical antibiotics, then on oral antibiotics with a topical gel that really flaked out and dried up my skin. But I felt like I had no choice and no where else to turn when it came to my skincare, plus it did help, so I stuck with it. It meant I was on medication daily, which to me, felt a little bit like a prison sentence and I just wasn’t comfortable with feeding my body with such harsh chemicals inside and out. So, I decided to do something about it.
I have always been one for skincare, but not so much the following through with it regularly, until about 2 years ago. Knowing what I know now, I cannot stress enough how important skincare is generally, but is key when you have problematic skin.
I now have a small number of products I use regularly, without fail, and I have worked out the best combination of non medicinal products to help me keep my acne at bay.
Before I get into the ins and outs of what I do, one thing I really need to stress is always removing every trace of makeup at the end of the day. NEVER sleep in it. When I have, oh boy does my skin take the brunt of it and I kick myself for being a lazy so and so.
I have finally found the perfect cleanser for my skin, which I use religiously twice a day. I use this in the morning in the shower and at the end of the day following the removal of my makeup. It comes with a muslin cloth to help exfoliate and cleanse your skin thoroughly when using the product. You know what it is like ladies, when you think you’ve removed every last bit, this little treasure makes sure the most stubborn of foundations and mascaras are banished.
My skin feels so fresh and clean and I have noticed my makeup goes on so much nicer in the morning now that I have introduced this to my skincare regime. And, it’s not expensive, at £15, this lasts for some time, and as this product works for me and I love how clean, but not stripped my skin feels, I don’t mind spending this every couple of months.
Every other night, I use the the following two products alternatively:
This really is gold! This is great as a toner and contains glycolic acid which is great for resurfacing the skin. This overnight treatment has helped banish breakouts, acne scars, dark spots and has really evened out my complexion. This product is a real treat for my skin, and using this every other night, provides a great overnight skin repair and renewal. I honestly, will not and cannot live without this product, and since using it, has become a game changer in the condition of my skin.
So this is an new addition to my skincare (recommended by a friend, you know who you are), but I know it’s going to stick around for the long haul. On the nights I do not use my Alpha H Liquid Gold, I apply this serum as a night treatment before bed once I have cleansed my skin thoroughly. As soon as I apply this, I can feel all the goodness that is contained within this product, reflect onto my skin. My skin feels smooth. plump, healthy and I can honestly see a difference in the brightness of my skin in the morning. It is a little pricey and I am always dubious about splurging, but this really was worth every penny and I will continue to purchase this.
I like to treat my skin to two face masks a week as below:
This mask is amazing. I mean, I cannot explain how hard this masks works for me and my problematic skin. It can get a little messy and it is a little difficult to remove, but how life changing this mask has been for me, cancels all that out. This is a deep pore cleansing mask which really gets into the depths of your pores and clears them right out. I love the way this feels on my skin, the combination of the apple cider vinegar (which is the best way to mix this) feels so good. My skin slightly pulsates and warms up, which really makes me feel like this mask is bringing all the gunk up to the surface for removal. I can say, my pores seems tighter and less visible when using this mask.
Yes your face will go red and a little tight after use, but this calms down after about 30 minutes. Because this makes your skin feel a little tight following removal, I like to use a facial oil to sooth the redness. Because of the intensity of this mask, I like to do this once a week as a deep pore cleansing treatment. And again, so cheap and this tub has lasted me forever.
Now this little mask is my godsend. Firstly, this mask doesn’t whiten your skin, as it may seem to suggest, this mask is great for reducing pigmentation and acne scarring. I have recommended this mask to many friends and family members who absolutely adore the effects they get from using this mask. After the first use, I really saw a difference in the reduction of my acne scars, really! My pigmentation had reduced, my acne scars have really improved and my skin feel so hydrated and soft. This is a key staple and I like to use this twice a week in my skincare routine.
Please remember, everyone’s skin is different and what works for me may not work for you. I know how debilitating and what a confidence killer acne can be, so if I can help anyone out there, then my work here is done. Of course, I get the odd breakout here and there during certain times of the month, but nothing compared to what I used to suffer with, honestly, I can deal with the odd one or two spots.
I am always researching and trying new products, so let me know, how do you keep your acne at bay?
