Natural Hair Oils – Why They Are So Good For You

SPA accessoriesDaily stresses, heat appliances, time constraints all lead to us neglecting the health of our hair.  But once the damage is done, it is irreparable and the long road to recovering healthy strong hair can be difficult and take months if not years.  Therefore, it is extremely important to maintain the strength and health of your hair at all times.

Hair is dead.  Yes, once the hair follicle reaches the skin’s surface, the cells within each strand of hair are not alive anymore. The hair on your head (and anywhere else on your body) consist of dead cells.  Therefore once damaged, the hair shaft is unable to repair itself.  It is imperative to factor in a haircare routine to ensure your hair is healthy inside and out.  One thing I have always sworn by is hair oil.

Hair oils have been used for many centuries in India and many other countries and used from a young age to promote and preserve long healthy dark hair.  Coconut oil is one of the mostpopular hair oils to use but there are so many out there that are just as good and still used today:

Coconut Oil
Olive Oil
Avocado Oil
Argan Oil
Almond Oil
Black Seed Oil
Amla Oil

The oil, when massaged into the scalp, is absorbed into each hair follicle which penetrates each new hair and nourishes and strengthens the growth of each individual hair shaft.  If you continue to do this regularly, whether it be daily, weekly or monthly depending on your preference, you will notice over time, the improvement in the health of your hair, including the thickness, shine and even length.

I personally massage the oil into my scalp at least twice a week.  I leave the oil in overnight and wash out the next morning.  When I am short on time or I just fancy a quick hair treatment during the week, I massage the oil into my scalp, taking it through the lengths of my hair, tie up in a bun and wash out about an hour later.  Even if you leave the oil in for 20 minutes, you will still benefit.  It all depends on your routine and lifestyle.  Some weeks, I don’t treat my hair, due to being busy or even forgetting and trust me, I notice the difference.  Sometimes, it’s just nice to massage the oil into your scalp after a hard day at work, that way you feel relaxed and your hair gets a mid-week treatment.  You will also find, with continued use of hair oils, hair fall will decrease, which is why, after some time you will notice an improvement in the thickness of your hair.

Remember, you don’t need to spend a huge amount on name brand hair treatments, when you probably have them right in your kitchen cupboard!

Do you use any particular hair oils to maintain the health of your hair? I’ll see you soon. X.O.
